Come to one of our upcoming social events to get to know your fellow Chicago RPCVs! If you need more information, or would like to help plan or host an event, contact Helen Haugsnes at helen@rpcvs.org.

The 2007 Peace Corps calendars are in!  Posting the Peace Corps wall calendar has become an annual tradition in many RPCV homes.  Relive Peace Corps memories as you enjoy a photo from a different Peace Corps country each month.  The calendar also features stories from RPCVs, and a comprehensive list of holidays from around the world.  You can preview the calendar photos here.  If you buy the calendars from us, a portion of the proceeds will be used to support Peace Corps Partnership projects involving Chicago area PCVs.  Interested?  Contact helen@rpcvs.org.  We're selling the calendars for $15.

Get an early start on your holiday shopping!  On Friday, November 17, we will meet for a feast at the Anderson Commons Cafe, on the campus of Wheaton College.  The buffet costs $9.75 and is rated by the Princeton Review as one of the top ten campus cafes in the country!  A map of the college campus is available here.  Park down the hill at the Billy Graham Center, or in the lots surrounding Blanchard Hall, the large castle-like stone building at the center of campus.  So you don't mistake us for college students, Helen will mark our RPCV table with balloons.  Call Darren at 630-596-6486 if you have trouble finding us.

After dinner, we'll walk a couple blocks west to the home of Norm Ewert, 401 N. Scott St, to shop for Christmas goodies from Ten Thousand Villages, a fair trade craft store run by the Mennonite church. Once a year, Norm transforms his home into a Christmas Bazaar for 10,000 Villages, with Christmas decorations from around the world on the 2nd floor, all sorts of quality crafts, jewelry, coffee, clothing, and books on the main floor, and crafts for children and hand-made Pakistani rugs in the basement.  To learn more about fair trade, and the artists supported by this worthy project, visit the Ten Thousand Villages website.
