Join fellow RPCVs as we cleanup a section of the Prairie Path in South Elgin.

Please join our effort to participate in the annual "Earth Day" Trail Clean-up of the Illinois Prairie Path & the Great Western Trail, Saturday, April 24, 2004.

There are 61 miles of trails in DuPage, Kane and Cook Counties managed  by The Illinois Prairie Path not-for-profit corporation. We are asking for your help. We want you to help us and roll up your sleeves (but wear work gloves) and pick up litter along these trails. Bring friends and family (and garbage bags to fill) on Saturday, April 24th.  We'll start at 9:00AM - Rain or Shine!

Our group will be working the at a South Elgin location where the Elgin Branch of the Prairie Path meets the Fox River Trail. We will meet at a parking area located on the west side  Raymond Street between Riverview and Purify Dr. (just south of the Fox River Water Reclamation Plan).

Directions: Traveling north on Route 25, proceed about one quarter mile north of the Middle St/Bartlett Rd intersection to Kenyon. Turn left on Kenyon and proceed to the first four-way stop - South Elgin Rd. Turn right on South Elgin Road. South Elgin Road changes in to Raymond. If you're a www.mapquest.com user, type 1150 Raymond, South Elgin, Illinois. If you are interested in bicycling to our location, it is 14 miles from downtown Wheaton on the Elgin Branch.

For more information, visit the Illinois Prairie Path website at www.ipp.org.  If you have questions, contact Dave Gorman.  Join us!

Come to our first 2004 ethnic dinner and gathering! RPCVs of Northeastern Illinois will be celebrating Peace Corps Week 2004 on Friday, March 5, 2004, 6:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe restaurant, 426 N. Main Street, Glen Ellyn. The cost is $15/person. Please RSVP by March 2nd to Rick or Kelly.

From March 1st through March 7, 2004, returned volunteers across the country will be engaged in the third goal of Peace Corps - Bringing the World Home.

One of our group's Action Areas is Community and School Outreach. Peace Corps Week is an ideal opportunity to show your support for RPCVs of Northeastern Illinois, and make an impact in your community.

Consider the possibility that your personal outreach in a local school, service club, place of worship, or workplace will create a passion for making a difference in the lives of others. We've already had a specific request from a school in Addison.

Need some ideas? Check out www.peacecorps.gov/ques/pcweek.html There are scores of resources available to support your participation in Peace Corps Week. Download fact sheets and power point presentations and add your own slides and ideas. If you have questions, or are willing to speak in Addison, send an e-mail to Rick or Kelly.

The Chicago Area Peace Corps Association (CAPCA) offers many opportunities to connect with fellow RPCVs closer to the downtown area.  For more information, visit the CAPCA events page.
